New Delhi, Dec 5 (LatestNewsX) – People around the world woke up in a state of confusion when Cloudflare, the DNS and CDN provider that supports thousands of sites, went down again over Friday. The outage caused major sites to become unresponsive, with popular services such as Canva and even Downdetector, the go‑to site for tracking outages, reporting problems. A handful of Indian sites and several news outlets were also affected.
This is the second major interruption for Cloudflare in under a month. During a similar technical glitch in November, services like Spotify, ChatGPT and Donald Trump’s Truth Social were temporarily taken offline.
So far, Cloudflare has not issued an official statement explaining what triggered the latest failure or how extensive it was.
The sudden shutdown drew angry reactions on the social media platform X, where several hashtags about the outage trended almost immediately. Users vented their frustration over recurring disruptions, pointing out how the interruptions were hurting their jobs, businesses and everyday internet use.
Even Downdetector was caught in the storm, making it hard for people to gauge the full scale of the issue.
Amid rising concerns, many are urging Cloudflare to act swiftly and communicate more transparently to prevent future incidents.
Last month’s global outage stemmed from an internal configuration error, not a cyberattack as some speculated. The incident cut off services including X, ChatGPT, Canva, Discord, and a host of other websites worldwide. In the aftermath, CEO Matthew Prince shared that the root cause was a change made to permissions on a ClickHouse database cluster. The update was intended to improve data access, but a faulty query pulled in more information than expected, swamping a key “feature file” used by the company’s Bot Management system and pushing it beyond its capacity.
