Govt makes passport verification record available on DigiLocker for citizens’ease and security

New Delhi, Nov 4 (LatestNewsX) – The National e‑Governance Division (NeGD) of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) rolled out a key upgrade for citizens on Thursday. The change brings the Passport Verification Record (PVR) onto the DigiLocker platform, allowing users to store, share and verify their passport data digitally. The move was made possible through a partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
DigiLocker, a cloud‑based service under the Digital India initiative, lets people issue, keep, and exchange digital documents securely. Adding PVR to this ecosystem reduces the need for paper passports and speeds up verification across many sectors.
Once verified, users can view their PVR in the “Issued Documents” section of DigiLocker, whether they use the web portal or the mobile app. This enhances the efficiency of accessing official verification documents, keeping them safe and easily readable.
The integration is expected to cut down manual paperwork for travel, job applications and regulatory compliance. Because DigiLocker issues PVRs digitally from government systems, the records are tamper‑proof and fully authentic.
Citizens can also share their PVRs on a consent‑based basis with authorised parties, eliminating the need for photocopies and several physical submissions.
Overall, this step marks a significant advance in India’s digital public services, reinforcing a citizen‑first mindset by marrying secure digital records with user‑friendly access.
