Govt’s 7 working groups finalise roadmap for Bharat 6G Mission

New Delhi, Dec 9 (LatestNewsX) – At a quarterly review met up by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, the Centre’s seven working groups under the Bharat 6G Alliance shared their latest progress and outlined the next steps.

During the session, Scindia explained how the alliance’s seven pillars—technology, spectrum, devices, applications, sustainability, outreach, and commercialisation—must move together. He urged regular, cross‑group reviews so that a breakthrough in one area quickly turns into a practical benefit for the other parts.

Spectrum emerged as the key lever for India’s 6G plan. Scindia noted that the country has already re‑used many frequency bands, and has more earmarked for future rollout. He added that grasping worldwide trends is essential to craft a long‑term national spectrum strategy.

On the device side, the minister called for a full‑length view of the supply chain, from design to factory floor, stressing that India needs a high‑volume, affordable model that differs from the European or U.S. market. He suggested that standardized device frameworks could speed up adoption and cut costs.

Scindia highlighted the role of joint innovation, encouraging a partnership of entrepreneurs, academia and industry. He cited the post‑war rebuild in Germany and Japan as examples of how collaboration can spark breakthroughs.

He also told the assembly that India must identify 6G use cases that directly meet domestic needs, instead of simply copying global templates.

The minister reaffirmed that the 6G push is more than a tech race; it’s about cultivating a self‑sufficient ecosystem that serves citizens, businesses and the world. He said the drive must be driven by Indian ingenuity, supported by a growing community of researchers, startups and industrial allies.

The Bharat 6G Alliance remains the key vehicle for producing homegrown 6G solutions and positioning India as a global supplier of IP, products, and affordable infrastructure for both 5G and 6G.

Its working groups tackle spectrum, device tech, components, sensors, manufacturing, core tech, applications, sustainability, outreach, foreign ties, and revenue models, ensuring every critical element of the Bharat 6G Mission is addressed in a coordinated way.

Scindia outlined the mission’s core goals: set clear, staged targets; stay closely aligned with the alliance; pin down top research priorities; commission independent audits; and hold quarterly progress checks. He urged India to build end‑to‑end value chains, divide big challenges into bite‑size parts, and monitor measurable milestones every quarter instead of waiting for yearly reviews.

Finally, the minister reminded India that it should not just follow global standards but steer them. While cooperating with bodies such as 3GPP and ITU, the country’s home‑grown innovations must become globally impactful. He concluded that to lead in telecom, India needs both distinctiveness and widespread applicability.
