Heavy rains battered Himachal Pradesh on Sunday, leaving public services in a tough spot and causing big headaches for residents across the state. The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) reports that 647 roads, 343 water supply schemes, and 185 electricity distribution transformers (DTRs) got disrupted in just the last 24 hours due to relentless downpours.

The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) highlighted in its morning update that three key national highways—NH-03, NH-305, and NH-503A—faced major issues, hitting connectivity hard in Kullu, Mandi, and Una districts. Teams are working non-stop to fix critical spots like the Manali-Keylong highway and the Kullu-Manali right bank road, but landslides keep popping up, keeping traffic limited and roads risky.

Breaking it down by district, Mandi took the biggest hit with 246 roads blocked, followed by Kullu at 170 and Shimla at 58. For power outages, Kangra saw 176 DTRs affected, while Shimla dealt with 61 disrupted water supplies. All this chaos stems from the heavy rainfall that’s been pounding the region without a break.

The monsoon tragedy in Himachal Pradesh keeps getting worse—the total death toll since June 20 now stands at 394. Out of these, 221 lives were lost to rain-related disasters like landslides, flash floods, and collapsing homes. Another 173 people died in road accidents, often blamed on slippery roads and damaged highways from the bad weather.

Thousands of locals are still without clean drinking water or power, making daily life a real struggle. Round-the-clock teams from the Public Works Department, Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board, and Jal Shakti Department are out there battling the elements to restore services. But tricky weather and new landslides in high-altitude areas are slowing things down.

Officials warn that if the rains don’t let up, more disruptions could hit districts like Mandi, Kullu, and Shimla hard. The state government is advising everyone to skip unnecessary trips on hilly roads and follow local authority alerts to stay safe.
