On Monday, the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Chennai played host to the launch of the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2025 trophy tour and the unveiling of the tournament’s mascot, Kangeyan. The global event will take place in Chennai and Madurai from November 28 to December 10, 2025.

The trophy tour, a celebratory journey across Tamil Nadu’s 38 districts, was flagged off by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and FIH President Tayyab Ikram. Running from Kanyakumari to Chennai between November 10 and 25, the tour will highlight the state’s love for hockey and build excitement among fans and young players.

The launch attracted several high‑profile guests, including Prime Minister‑sister MP Dayanidhi Maran, MP Tamilachi Thangapandian, Minister P.K. Sekar Babu, MLA Paranthamen, IAS officer Dr. Atul Misra, Mayor Priya Rajan, IAS J. Meghanatha Reddy, Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh, and Hockey Unit President Sekar J. Manoharan.

The mascot, Kangeyan, is named after the Kangeyam Kaalai – a strong, proud bull native to Tamil Nadu’s Kongu region. The Kangeyam is a cultural icon, especially in Madurai where it is revered for its bravery in Jallikkattu. By adopting Kangeyan, the state showcases its heritage and connects the spirit of hockey with that of its people.

Ahead of the tournament, the organising committee met to fine‑tune preparations. Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey praised Tamil Nadu’s commitment: “The trophy tour’s launch shows the state’s enthusiasm and dedication. Kangeyan represents Tamil pride, and we are confident this Junior World Cup will leave a lasting legacy for Indian hockey.” Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh added, “Collaboration between Hockey India, the Tamil Nadu government, and FIH is outstanding. From infrastructure to grassroots engagement, every effort ensures a world‑class experience for teams and fans.”

The launch sets the stage for a memorable FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2025 in Tamil Nadu, promising excitement for players, fans, and the state’s proud hockey tradition.
