Meta‑owned Instagram experienced a short‑lived outage on Sunday that hit mainly U.S. users, with the problem reported to have peaked in the early hours.
According to data from the outage‑tracking site Downdetector, around 4:10 a.m. Eastern Standard Time more than 180 people posted trouble reports, citing difficulties logging in or loading the app’s content. Many screenshots posted across other platforms showed a blank screen with a spinning refresh icon, but no specific error message appeared.
The breakdown of user complaints was roughly 45 % for general app failures, 41 % for login issues, and the remaining 14 % for problems with the feed or timeline not loading correctly. In contrast, almost no impact was seen in India; only ten users in the country logged any problems.
Meta has not yet released an official statement explaining the cause or expected duration of the glitch. In the meantime, the social media community shared a range of reactions, including a user asking, “Is insta down??” and another remarking, “Jimin really got that Insta baddie aesthetic down.”
This isn’t the first technical hiccup for a Meta‑owned service. Earlier in the year, WhatsApp suffered several outages worldwide, including in India, preventing users from sending messages or uploading status updates in a September incident that drew widespread complaint across social media.
