MoU signed to boost marketing and export of Mizoram’s agri produce

Aizawl, Dec 8 (LatestNewsX) – In a significant development, National Co‑operative Exports Limited (NCEL) and the Mizoram State Cooperative Marketing & Consumers’ Federation Limited (MIZOFED) formalised a strategic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) this Monday. The deal aims to boost the promotion and export of Mizoram’s agricultural goods.
During the ceremony, the state’s Minister of Cooperation, P. C. Vanlalruata, took part in the signing. The minister highlighted that this agreement is a key moment for weaving Mizoram’s farming and related sectors into the global market through the cooperative framework.
MIZOFED, founded in 1981, serves as a vital government arm that operates throughout every district. It manages the Public Distribution System’s POL and LPG divisions and oversees essential consumer goods, playing a pivotal role in food security and distribution.
An official explained that this collaboration marks a fresh chapter for Mizoram’s rural community, enabling its distinctive produce to reach sophisticated buyers worldwide while promoting sustainable growth via cooperatives.
In related news, NITI Aayog has officially recognised Mizoram as the “Ginger Capital of India”, applauding the state’s reputation for high‑quality ginger and its rapid production growth. The state government thanked NITI Aayog for this honor, and Chief Minister Lalduhoma chaired a meeting with the Mizoram Agricultural Marketing Board (MAMB) to discuss the gesture.
The session covered ongoing initiatives and reviewed reports of activities carried out in the current fiscal year, including a recent high‑level Stakeholders’ Consultation for Mizoram ginger in New Delhi. According to MAMB’s annual procurement report, more than 3.38 crore kg of ginger was purchased this year, with the full support price of ₹137.72 crore already disbursed.
MAMB is preparing to organise a “Ginger Buyer‑Seller Meet” expected to attract participants from across India, with the goal of striking new trade deals for the upcoming harvest. Meanwhile, the state’s new ginger processing unit in Sairang is slated for inauguration on 12 January next year.
