Family tensions are heating up in the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) just weeks before Bihar’s Assembly election dates get announced. Lalu Prasad’s children, who often make headlines in Bihar politics, are clashing again—this time over a simple photo from a recent rally.
The drama started during the “Voter Adhikar Yatra,” a Bihar tour organized by Congress after Rahul Gandhi’s claims of “vote chori” or stolen votes. RJD leaders joined in, and one picture captured Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav sitting front and center in a vehicle, right behind the windscreen for all to see. That spot usually goes to top leaders for maximum visibility.
Lalu’s second daughter, Rohini Acharya, called it out recently, saying only senior figures should claim that prime seat next to the driver. Her elder brother, Tej Pratap Yadav—who’s no longer part of the party—backed her up right away. On the other side, their sister Misa Bharti stands with Tejaswi Yadav, Lalu’s heir apparent and the party’s real power player.
This isn’t the first time Tejaswi has dealt with family pushback from Tej Pratap. But now, it highlights deeper divides in the Yadav family, a key force in Bihar politics. Rohini, who lost the 2024 Lok Sabha election in Saran to BJP’s Rajiv Pratap Rudy by about 13,600 votes, has denied rumors she’s eyeing a Bihar Assembly seat. Still, party insiders whisper she wanted in.
Misa, meanwhile, scored a big win in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. She reclaimed her seat from her uncle, former RJD man turned BJP candidate Ram Kripal Yadav. He had beaten her twice before, in 2014 and 2019, after Lalu denied him the ticket. Tejaswi gave Misa the nod this time, reportedly on Sanjay’s advice.
At 77, Lalu Prasad has faced jail time and health struggles, so Tejaswi stepped up as RJD’s de facto leader. He led the party to become Bihar’s largest in the Assembly, though not enough for a majority. In 2020, he smartly shared seats with allies, especially the Left parties, and it paid off big.
Tejaswi credits much of his success to Sanjay Yadav, a buddy from his cricket days. Insiders call Sanjay the brains behind RJD’s election strategy. He handles ground-level checks in constituencies, analyzes numbers, and sorts out alliances before passing final calls to Tejaswi. That’s why the family feud now circles Sanjay—he’s seen as the guy shaping fates, including Rohini’s and Tej Pratap’s.
In this latest spat, the “seat” in the photo symbolizes a bigger battle for control in the RJD family and party machine. With Bihar’s Assembly elections looming, these cracks could shake up alliances and strategies across Bihar politics.
