Ladki Bahin Yojana will continue, assures Maharashtra CM Fadnavis
On Tuesday, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed that the state will keep the “Ladki Bahin Yojana” running. He told a crowd in Hiwarkhed, at a rally for the upcoming Nagarpanchayat elections, that the program would not be stopped as long as he holds office.
Fadnavis also used the occasion to reassure voters that any rumors of the scheme’s closure were unfounded. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for improving housing, education and health for the poor, and marked one year since his government’s electoral win. When asked about the future of the initiative, he told women in the room that “People thought this government would shut down the Ladki Bahin scheme. But I promise my sisters, with me as Chief Minister, the scheme will not close.”
He called the day “historic,” drawing a parallel between the completion of the Ayodhya temple’s pinnacle and the need for continued development in local municipalities. Fadnavis highlighted that the BJP’s candidates meant to govern transparently, and singled out MLA Prakash Bharsakale for transforming Hiwarkhed from a gram panchayat to a nagarpanchayat. He urged voters to back the BJP’s plan for city growth instead of worrying about negative politics.
Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde also spoke at rallies in Nashik, noting how the “Ladki Bahin Yojana” helped the government win key elections. Shinde criticized the opposition for not preventing the program’s continuation, and pledged that any obstacles, such as KYC compliance, would be cleared under his leadership.
Both leaders credited the support of women beneficiaries for the government’s stability and electoral success, saying that the scheme would stay in place as long as they hold office.
The “Ladki Bahin Yojana” provides ₹1,500 in monthly cash assistance to eligible women across Maharashtra and is widely seen as a flagship programme. Fadnavis and his deputies stressed that the scheme would not only persist but also expand, with further measures aimed at boosting women’s social and economic empowerment.
Because the programme was described as a “gamechanger” during the last Assembly elections, it remains a decisive factor in the current local body contests. The coalition leaders’ campaign messages consistently emphasize that the “Ladki Bahin Yojana” will continue and grow, thanks to the blessings of the women it serves.
