Pak PM Sharif trolled heavily for ‘gatecrashing’ Putin-Erdogan meeting in Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, Dec 12 – Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif drew a flood of online criticism after footage of him barging into a session between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan went viral on social media.
Russia’s official news agency RIA Novosti reported that the leaders kept negotiating in a private room even after their envoys had departed. “Shortly thereafter, the Pakistani prime minister joined the discussion expecting to meet Putin in another hall,” the agency said.
Clips shared online show Sharif growing increasingly exasperated as he waited on the sidelines of a forum hosted in Ashgabat to mark the International Year of Peace and Trust, International Neutrality Day, and Turkmenistan’s 30th anniversary of permanent neutrality.
According to the reports, Sharif and his delegation—including Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar—waited for over 40 minutes for Putin before deciding to interfere in the President’s meeting with Erdogan in a nearby room of the Congress Centre.
“PM Sharif lingered for more than 40 minutes for President Putin before finally intruding into the Russian leader’s talk with Erdogan; he left after about ten minutes,” RT India posted on X, accompanied by a video depicting the impatient Pakistani delegation anxiously awaiting the Russian president.
The previous week, President Putin completed a successful state visit to India, during which the two countries further cemented their Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the warm welcome and highlighted the close personal and professional rapport that now guides ongoing cooperation across strategic sectors.
