In the thrilling World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi, Bulgaria’s Ruzhdi made history on Sunday by grabbing his sixth straight gold in the men’s shot put F55 event. He smashed his own world record with a massive 12.94-meter throw on his final attempt, turning the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium into a roar of cheers. This marked one of three world records set during the session, highlighting the incredible talent on display.

Ruzhdi, a 34-year-old legend who’s overcome a life-changing car crash that left him paralyzed from the waist down, has now won gold at every championships since 2015, starting in Doha. This victory was extra special—he’s broken the world record three times while clinching these titles. Serbia’s Nebojsa Duric put up a strong fight with six throws over 12 meters, but Ruzhdi topped him easily with five efforts better than Duric’s best of 12.52 meters.

Over in the men’s long jump T20, Malaysia’s Abdul Latif Romly nailed a hat-trick of world championship golds with a stunning world record jump of 7.67 meters. The 28-year-old has dominated this event, picking up five golds and one silver overall. His only loss came back in Dubai in 2019, but he’s been unstoppable since, making this record a perfect highlight to his collection.

Ukraine’s Volodymyr Ponomarenko also shone in the men’s shot put T12, setting a world record of 17.39 meters on just his second throw to lock in the gold. Latvia’s Emils Dzilna fought hard with two throws over 16 meters, but his top mark of 16.63 meters couldn’t catch the Ukrainian powerhouse.

Algeria’s Nassima Saifi kept her throne in the women’s discus throw F57, completing a double hat-trick of world championship golds. Challengers struggled to match her—every one of her five valid throws soared past 32 meters, blowing away China’s silver medalist Tian Yuxin’s best of 30.30 meters.

Switzerland’s Catherine Debrunner stole the show in the women’s 5,000m T54 race, powering to victory ahead of China’s defending champion Tian Yajuan and her own teammate Patricia Eachus. At 30, Debrunner claimed her second gold in the event, showing why she’s a force in para athletics.

These standout performances from the World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi remind us of the sheer determination and skill in para sports, setting new benchmarks for athletes worldwide.
