Delhi police have cracked down on illegal immigration again, detaining two Bangladeshi nationals who overstayed their visas for two years. The arrests happened in New Delhi’s Mahipalpur area, where officers from the South West District’s Operations Cell acted fast on a tip about a migrant looking for a place to stay.
The suspects are Md. Abdulaziz Mian, 46, from Sakhipur in Bangladesh’s Tangail district, and Md. Rafiqul Islam, 29, from Kaliganj in Gazipur district. Police say the duo couldn’t show any valid visas or travel papers when questioned. They admitted sneaking into India about two years ago and staying beyond their visa limits.
After a quick check, authorities confirmed their identities and kicked off deportation through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Delhi. Officials stress this shows the South West District Police’s no-nonsense stance on illegal Bangladeshi migrants and unauthorized stays.
Just days earlier, on September 26, the same force nabbed three more illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the RK Puram neighborhood. A secret tip led the team straight to them, and once again, the suspects had no proper documents. They owned up to arriving in India on flight visas in 2023—planning a hop to Europe like Portugal—but got stuck when they couldn’t secure those visas.
Instead, they hunkered down in South Delhi, hunting for jobs. The group included Jhalak Pal, 25, from Balaganj in Sylhet near Dhaka; Md. Nurul Abser, 40, from Chattogram; and Mohammed Azizul Hoque, 21, also from Chattogram. Police verified their details with family back in Bangladesh and started the deportation process via FRRO in the capital.
These busts highlight Delhi’s ongoing efforts to tackle illegal immigration from Bangladesh, with quick action on tips helping keep the city safer.
