In recent news, a video of people praying at Terminal‑2 of Bengaluru International Airport caused a stir. The clip shows a group of travelers and their families performing Namaz (Islamic prayer) around noon on Sunday, while passengers were being sent off for the Hajj pilgrimage.
Security guards were on site, but the video suggests they did not stop the prayers. The footage spread quickly on social media, raising concerns about holding religious prayers in a high‑security airport zone. Many viewers questioned whether this could compromise safety.
Reactions from officials
Union Minister C. S. Kumaraswamy responded on Monday, saying that Bengaluru is a global city where people of all faiths need space to pray. He called for separate prayer rooms at the airport, stating that a dedicated room would prevent public prayer situations. “We’re not looking for petty disputes,” he said. “A proper room should solve this.”
Home Minister G. Parameshwara said he would investigate the incident. Minister of Rural Development, IT and BT, Priyank Kharge, pointed out that the airport already has prayer rooms for every religion. He urged that any prayer activity in public space must have permission and should not affect law and order. “If the BJP and its allies are concerned, they should withdraw their legal action,” he added.
BJP Karnataka spokesperson Vijay Prasad shared the video and asked, “How is prayer allowed inside Terminal‑2? Did the Chief Minister or Minister Priyank Kharge approve this?” He also questioned why the government turns a blind eye to such activities in a sensitive security zone if the RSS carries out Patha Sanchalana with permission.
