Chandigarh University launches ‘Campus Tank’ to boost startup ecosystem

Chandigarh University Launches ‘Campus Tank’ to Boost India’s Startup Scene

In a big step to support India’s growing startup ecosystem, Chandigarh University introduced a new initiative called ‘Campus Tank’ at the Constitution Club of India on Saturday. This program aims to encourage collaboration between universities, businesses, and investors to help startups thrive across the country.

Himani Sood, Pro-Chancellor of Chandigarh University, emphasized the important role government support plays in making India a global leader in startups. She said, “The government has been a major driver in helping India lead in startup incubation. From being third to now number one, India is on its way to becoming Viksit Bharat—a developed India. This is no longer just a dream. With efforts from the government, angel investors, and universities, it’s becoming a reality.”

She also highlighted a positive trend — more than half of India’s startups now come from smaller cities like tier-2 and tier-3 towns. “That’s a very encouraging sign,” she added.

Talking about successful companies like PhonePe, Byju’s, OYO, and Ola, Sood pointed out that entrepreneurs and startups will play a key role in building the future of India, or Viksit Bharat. She urged the government, investors, and educational institutions to work together to help create more unicorns—the term for startups valued at over a billion dollars—in India.

Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor of Chandigarh University and a Member of Parliament, also shared his thoughts. He said strong leadership and clear vision are essential for a country’s progress. “For the last 11 years, India has been guided by a vision—‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ or self-reliant India, and now ‘Viksit Bharat,’ a developed India. These visions are helping us grow,” he said.

Union Minister Jitender Singh praised the launch of ‘Campus Tank,’ calling it a first-of-its-kind effort to strengthen ties between academia and industry. He explained, “Campus Tank aims to create a platform where startups can easily connect with businesses and universities act as catalysts. This approach could become a model for other parts of the country.”

He also stressed the importance of strong industry partnerships to keep India’s startup momentum going. “India is already ranked third in the global startup ecosystem. To maintain this level, we need even better collaborations between startups and industry players,” Singh added.

Through ‘Campus Tank,’ Chandigarh University is positioning itself as a leader in nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship, aligned with India’s vision of a modern, developed nation. This initiative is set to inspire more young entrepreneurs and boost India’s startup economy on the world stage.
