Terrorists used 40 kg explosives in Red Fort car blast: HM Amit Shah
New Delhi, Dec. 26 – In a briefing at the inaugural day of a two‑day “Anti‑Terror Conference” organized by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Union Home Minister Amit Shah disclosed that the Red Fort car‑bomb attack on Nov. 10 involved 40 kg of explosives. The blast—carried out by a suicide bomber driving near a busy signal facing the historic monument—killed 11 people.
In a related development, a Delhi court on Friday extended the NIA’s custody of two key suspects in the Red Fort case. Judge Prashant Sharma granted the agency an additional 10 days to question Yasir Ahmad Dar and eight more days for Dr. Bilal Naseer Malla. Dar, a resident of Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir, is now the ninth individual arrested in connection with the attack. He was taken into custody under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
“NIA investigations have revealed Yasir’s active role in the conspiracy behind the car bomb blast that rocked the national capital on November 10. An active participant in the conspiracy, he had sworn allegiance and taken an oath to carry out self‑sacrificial operations,” the agency said.
During the conference, Mr. Shah and experts from operational forces, technical, legal, and forensic agencies outlined strategies to coordinate anti‑terrorism efforts. The session emphasized building formal and informal partnerships under the “Whole of the Government approach” and gathering substantive input for future policy development. Attendees also discussed broader national security issues and emerging terrorist threats in a session to be held later in the event.
