Stalin calls BJP a parasite exploiting tragedies for poll gains, a washing machine for corrupt

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin didn’t hold back on Friday, slamming the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as a “parasite” that feeds off tragedies for political points and a “washing machine” that cleans up corruption for its allies.

During a speech in Ramanathapuram after kicking off new development projects, Stalin targeted the central government’s handling of the deadly Karur stampede. That incident killed 41 people, including women and children, and Stalin called out the BJP for turning it into election fodder.

He pointed fingers at Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, saying she skipped visits to Tamil Nadu after three big natural disasters but rushed to Karur now just to grab headlines before polls. “The BJP acts like a parasite, sucking the life out of others,” Stalin said, accusing the party of blocking Tamil Nadu’s rightful share of funds and working against the state’s growth.

Stalin also hit the BJP as a getaway for wrongdoers dodging accountability. He blasted the opposition AIADMK for teaming up with the BJP, calling it a betrayal of Tamil Nadu’s interests.

Shifting to ongoing issues, Stalin condemned attacks on fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy. He accused the central government of ignoring the problem and doing nothing to protect local fishers. “We keep raising alarms in the assembly, pushing resolutions for the Centre to step in with Sri Lanka, but they refuse,” he said.

Stalin took aim at national policies too, saying GST, NEET, and the National Education Policy (NEP) have shortchanged Tamil Nadu financially and slowed its progress in education. He criticized the Centre for overlooking the state’s needs, like funding for key digs at Keezhadi, an ancient Tamil site.

But Stalin stayed positive about his Dravidian model of governance. “We’ll keep pushing this model to turn Tamil Nadu into a top state in India,” he promised.

Before the speech, Stalin unveiled projects worth Rs 738 crore in Ramanathapuram district. He noted that 46,270 more initiatives totaling Rs 3,250 crore are underway there. His government has rolled out key benefits, like a women’s rights allowance for 2.36 lakh women, aid for over 8 lakh farmers, and daily nutritious breakfasts for 83,483 schoolchildren.

Among the new launches: the upgraded Ramanathapuram railway station, a government higher secondary school in Thangachimadam, and a social justice hostel for college students in Paramakudi.

Stalin highlighted support for the fishing community, with schemes reaching 1.85 lakh fishers. His administration even beat targets by giving cooperative loans worth Rs 57 crore to 81,518 of them, up from the planned 45,000.
