Nairobi, Dec 1 – Several Indian diplomatic missions around the world marked the International Gita Mahotsav, reflecting on how the Bhagavad Gita’s timeless wisdom still speaks to us today.
In Kenya, the Indian High Commission in Nairobi, working with the Hindu Council of Kenya, held a ceremony that included a video address from External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, which was recorded for the 10th International Gita Mahotsav. The high commissioner, Adarsh Swaika, thanked the council for its partnership and praised local groups that teach the Bhagavad Gita.
The event highlighted the enduring relevance of the text, and delegates from ISKCON, Chinmaya Mission, Bhakti Marga and the Hindu Council of Kenya gave talks and chanted shlokas.
The International Gita Mahotsav is being conducted in Kurukshetra, Haryana, from 15 Nov to 5 Dec. It is celebrated on Ekadashi in the month of Margashirsha, when Lord Krishna delivered the Gita’s eternal lessons to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.
Meanwhile in the United States, the Consulate General of India in Houston teamed up with Geeta Pariwar to observe Geeta Jayanti at Vitthal Rukmini Mandir, coinciding with the event in Kurukshetra. Consul Prashant Sona remarked that the Gita’s teachings are not only a spiritual guide but also a living cultural heritage that inspires harmony, responsibility and resilience in modern life. He added on X that “at Vitthal Rukmini Mandir, collective recitation and reflections on the Gita brought these timeless teachings into focus—clarity in decision‑making, balance amid success and failure, and compassion in action.”
