Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh wrapped up an exciting meeting in New Delhi with the board of aerospace giant Airbus, worth $180 billion. The session, led by Chairman Rene Obermann and Airbus India’s President and Managing Director for South Asia, marks the first time the Airbus board has visited India. They’re eyeing opportunities under the Make in India initiative and boosting local manufacturing, known as indigenisation.
Lokesh made a strong case for Andhra Pradesh to host a massive, cutting-edge aerospace manufacturing hub. He pitched the idea of Airbus anchoring the facility, with top suppliers (Tier 1 and Tier 2 vendors) right nearby to create a seamless supply chain. The state is ready with land parcels that investors can grab quickly, plus a fresh aerospace policy to speed up projects, ensure top-notch global standards, and drive technology transfer. The goal? Turn Andhra Pradesh into a key export hub for aerospace products.
In a lively post on X (formerly Twitter), Lokesh highlighted their plans: “North sounds good. Slightly more north is Anantapur… where we are building a world-class aerospace and defence ecosystem! 😁” He shared this to show the state’s push in that region.
Andhra Pradesh invited Airbus to set up an integrated cluster, where suppliers, small businesses (MSMEs), and partners work side by side. This setup cuts risks, ramps up local production, and keeps costs low while scaling up. The state is developing several aerospace corridors, offering flexible sites that fit Airbus’s needs—from vendor clusters and logistics to future growth paths near airports and ports.
Lokesh traveled straight from the state capital Amaravati just for this meeting, showing the government’s investor-friendly vibe. He stressed fast-track approvals, a single-window system for ease, and quick execution. He also spotlighted “brand CBN”—a nod to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s proven success in attracting big investments—and Andhra Pradesh’s focus on speedy business operations.
“Airbus sets the gold standard in global aerospace, and Andhra Pradesh is geared up to provide a competitive base for complex manufacturing with full support,” Lokesh said. He added, “With ready land, a forward-thinking policy, and flexible corridors, we can localize, innovate, and scale for worldwide programs right here.”
The package on offer includes plug-and-play industrial land for main units and vendors, incentives through the aerospace policy, MSME partnerships, multi-corridor options tied to transport hubs, one-stop investor help, and skill-building programs with top institutions to match industry demands. This could supercharge Andhra Pradesh’s role in India’s growing aerospace sector.
