Bollywood icon Anil Kapoor recently posted a heartfelt message on social media to congratulate Hollywood star Tom Cruise for winning the Academy Honorary Oscar at the Governors Awards.
Kapoor shared a photo of Cruise holding the prestigious award and wrote, “Congratulations, dear friend, on this incredible honour. Your passion, discipline, and generosity are unmatched. The world has always admired you, and now they have honoured you with what you richly deserve.” He added, “Your achievement is a testament to all the artists around the world who pour their heart and soul into cinema. Thank you for your brilliance and for your friendship, which I will cherish forever.” The Indian superstar tagged Tom Cruise in the post, showing his support.
On Nov. 16, 2025, the Oscar was presented to Cruise by director Alejandro González Iñárritu, who is set to helm Cruise’s upcoming film in October 2026. During his speech, Cruise became visibly emotional as he talked about the power of cinema. “Cinema takes me around the world. It helps me appreciate and respect differences. It shows us our shared humanity,” he said. “In the theatre, we laugh, feel and hope together—that’s the true power of this art form.” Cruise added that making films is not just a job, but who he is.
Cruise recalled his early love for movies, describing how a tiny beam of light in a darkened theatre sparked his imagination and opened his world. He said the experience taught him that life can expand far beyond what he once thought possible.
The two stars first worked together in 2011’s “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.” In that movie, Kapoor played media mogul Brij Nath, while Cruise starred as the action‑hero Ethan Hunt.
