In Rohtak, Haryana, Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Badal urged people on Thursday to vote regional parties back into power. He stressed that only these parties truly stand up for farmers and the poor, unlike national ones that stir up divisions over religion and caste.
Badal spoke at the Samman Rally, held to mark the 112th birth anniversary of former Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhary Devi Lal. “National parties ignore farmers and the poor,” he told the crowd. “It’s time for farmers and the underprivileged to unite and back the Indian National Lok Dal in Haryana. This will protect the interests of our peasantry.”
The event drew big names, including Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Telangana lawmaker K. Kavitha—daughter of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao—and Congress leader Sampat Singh. Rohtak is a key area for former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda.
To make his point, Badal pointed to Punjab’s recent shift. “In 2022, Punjabis tried the Aam Aadmi Party, but look at the results,” he said. “During the floods, neither the AAP government nor the central government helped. People had to survive on their own.”
He called on voters to ditch experiments and choose regional parties for real change. “We focus on rural growth, while national parties care only about industrialists and forget struggling farmers,” Badal added.
Badal praised INLD President Abhay Singh Chautala as the real champion for farmers and the poor, calling him the rightful heir to Chaudhary Devi Lal’s legacy.
He also shared warm memories of the close bond between Devi Lal and his late father, Parkash Singh Badal. “They were like true brothers,” Badal said. “This friendship built strong ties between Punjabis and Haryana folks. Let’s make those bonds even stronger now.”
This rally marked the first without INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala, who died in December.
