Gujarat Giants snapped their five-match losing streak in the Pro Kabaddi League with a solid 33-27 victory over UP Yoddhas at Chennai’s SDAT Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium on Monday.
Star raiders Mohammadreza Shadloui and Ankit Dahiya led the charge for the Giants, outshining UP’s Bhavani Rajput, who fought hard but couldn’t turn the tide.
The match kicked off with UP Yoddhas grabbing an early 4-1 lead, thanks to quick raids. But Gujarat Giants fought back fiercely. Harish’s raid narrowed it to 4-2, and soon the score tied at 5-5 as both teams’ raiders and defenders shone.
Rakesh then stole the show with a stunning Super Raid—the 50th of the season—scoring three points in one go and putting Giants ahead. Just before the first-half timeout, Shadloui’s powerful raid triggered an All Out, boosting Giants to a five-point edge at 10-5.
After the break, UP Yoddhas pushed back, but Giants held firm. Bhavani Rajput’s own Super Raid brought them within one at 16-15, sparking some hope. Yet, Giants countered swiftly, with Ankit Dahiya’s tackle pushing the lead to 19-15. They entered halftime up 21-16, dominating in raids and tackles.
The second half saw UP score early points, but Dahiya’s quick tackle kept Giants in control. Over the next 10 minutes, smart raids and tough defense helped them build a four-point lead during the Strategic Time Out.
Giants maintained the pressure, staying five points ahead until late. UP clawed back to 29-26 with Rajput’s raid, but Dahiya’s clutch tackle made it 30-26. Shadloui sealed the win with a multi-point raid and a final tackle, ending it 33-27.
This Pro Kabaddi League win lifts Gujarat Giants’ spirits. They’ll face U Mumba next on October 2, while UP Yoddhas take on Dabang Delhi on October 3.
