Bihar Police is boosting its dog squad with 30 new specially trained canine recruits, an official announced recently. These furry heroes are getting polished at the Integrated Intelligence Training Academy in Moinabad, Hyderabad, and they’ll join the team in just two to three months.
Right now, the Bihar dog squad has 67 dogs on duty, but this fresh batch will push the numbers up to 97. The full target? A whopping 200 dogs to make policing even stronger. Plus, Bihar Police is in the process of buying 50 more from Home Guard Training Institutes in Punjab. Once they’re trained, the squad could hit 147 by year’s end—talk about a paw-some expansion!
The current lineup includes 19 explosive detection dogs, 21 trackers, 21 alcohol sniffers, and 6 drug detectors. You’ll find breeds like 55 Labradors, 2 Golden Retrievers, 6 Belgian Malinois, and 4 German Shepherds spread across police ranges and districts in Bihar.
Additional Director General of Police (CID) Parasnath shared these updates during a chat with the media at Sardar Patel Bhawan, the police headquarters. He stressed how these trained dogs are game-changers in crime investigations, spotting narcotics and explosives, securing VVIP events, and even cracking down on illegal liquor lately.
“With dogs proving so useful in modern policing, we’re working hard to grow the squad,” Parasnath added. IG (CID) Daljit Singh and other top officials joined the press meet and gave a thumbs up to the plan. The goal? At least three to four specialized dogs per district to keep things safe and efficient.
