Himachal Governor distributes relief material among flood-hit

Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla stepped in to help disaster-hit families in Chamba district on Sunday. He handed out food packets and relief materials to those affected by recent natural calamities at the Banikhet Nagar Panchayat auditorium in Dalhousie subdivision.

Speaking to the gathered crowd, Governor Shukla highlighted how Himachal Pradesh has grown more vulnerable to natural disasters over the past few years. He stressed the urgent need to protect and promote natural resources, pointing out that disasters have spiked since 2023. “These events haven’t just led to loss of lives and property—they’ve also stalled key development projects,” he added.

The Governor shared good news about support from the top. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the state last week and announced Rs 1,500 crore for relief and rehabilitation efforts. After touring the worst-hit districts, PM Modi also promised more funds based on reports from Union Ministers and central teams.

Governor Shukla thanked the Central government and Uttar Pradesh government for rushing in food supplies and aid to Himachal Pradesh. To meet growing demands, he urged local public representatives to submit lists of needs to the Secretary to the Governor’s office, the state Red Cross, and the Deputy Commissioner.

Praising the spirit of the locals, the Governor said the people of Chamba showed incredible resilience and unity in facing the tough times. “You handled the crisis with patience and bravery,” he noted, adding that he expects normalcy to return to the district in the next two to three months.

From Dalhousie, Governor Shukla flagged off vehicles loaded with relief materials headed to various affected spots. He then visited key disaster sites along National Highway 154-A, near Banikhet town, Kakiyana village, and the Chauhda area. There, he checked the damage firsthand and gave clear instructions to officials on the ground to speed up recovery.

This hands-on approach comes as Himachal Pradesh continues to battle the aftermath of floods and landslides, with communities rebuilding step by step.
