Delhi Court Seeks CBI Report on Complaint Against Police SHO for Alleged Bribe to Judge
A court in New Delhi has asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit a status report on a serious complaint against a Delhi Police Station House Officer (SHO). The allegations? The SHO reportedly paid for a judge’s sports kit, gym fees, and even flowers, which the complainant calls a clear case of bribery.
The complaint comes from advocate Sensar Pal Singh, who wants the CBI to register a First Information Report (FIR) against the SHO. According to Singh, the SHO made an official entry in the police diary, or "rojnamcha," claiming a judicial magistrate at Saket Court kept misbehaving and forcing him to foot these bills. This entry detailed payments for a batting kit, gym membership, and flowers for the judge. Singh argues that both giving and taking bribes are crimes under Indian law, so the SHO shouldn’t escape scrutiny.
Things escalated after the complaint reached the High Court, which stripped the magistrate of judicial duties. Now, Special CBI Judge Atul Krishna Agrawal has stepped in. On Friday, he heard the case and decided to seek a detailed update from the CBI before ruling on whether the complaint even stands. "After reviewing the application and submissions, I think it’s best to get a status report from the CBI first," the judge noted, keeping the maintainability issue open for later.
The next hearing is set for October 14. During the previous session on September 4, the CBI’s public prosecutor argued that the court can’t force an FIR in this scenario, citing Supreme Court rulings like CBI vs State of Rajasthan.
Singh, represented by advocates Yogesh Swaroop and Shivangi Singh, uncovered the shocking DD entry himself. It painted a picture of ongoing harassment: the judge allegedly issued wrong orders, sent notices, and even deployed police staff to her wedding in Rajasthan for personal chores. The SHO, who covers the area where the judge lives, felt so pressured that he paid the judge’s annual gym fees too.
The complainant’s lawyer pointed out the irony—a senior officer like the SHO can’t claim he was just a victim of pressure. "How can a top cop be coerced like this? He needs to face an FIR for bribery," the counsel argued.
This case highlights growing concerns over corruption in the judiciary and police, with calls for swift CBI action to investigate these bribery allegations in Delhi courts. Stay tuned for updates as the hearing approaches.
