PFI Bihar President arrested by NIA in Phulwari Sharif criminal conspiracy case
In a major crackdown on banned outfits, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Mahboob Alam, the Bihar state president of the Popular Front of India (PFI), on Saturday. This arrest links directly to the 2022 Phulwari Sharif criminal conspiracy case in Bihar, where PFI members allegedly plotted anti-national activities.
Alam, also known as Mahboob Alam Nadvi, hails from Hasanganj in Katihar district. NIA nabbed him in Kishanganj, making him the 19th accused arrested and charge-sheeted in this case. Originally, local police had filed it against 26 people under case number RC-31/2022/NIA/DLI.
According to the NIA, PFI associates aimed to spread terror by fueling religious enmity between communities. Their goal? To shatter peace, disrupt public harmony, and stir up hatred against India, even justifying violence. Investigations show they pushed PFI’s ideology to establish Islamic rule in India, as outlined in a seized document called “India 2047 Towards Rule of Islam in India.”
NIA recovered this internal PFI vision document from Ahmad Palace in Phulwarisharif, Patna, on July 11, 2022. Alam played a key role in the conspiracy, recruiting members, organizing training sessions and meetings, and carrying out anti-national tasks alongside other accused. He even collected and distributed funds to PFI cadres to fuel these activities.
The case falls under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P) Act), with NIA probes still ongoing. Security agencies remain committed to dismantling the banned PFI network, and this arrest of the Bihar PFI president could unlock vital leads in the Phulwari Sharif case, helping expose more about their terror tactics and religious division plans.
