A man was shot and killed at the MGM National Harbor Hotel & Casino, which sits on the Potomac just outside Washington, DC, on Wednesday afternoon. Police called the incident a “targeted shooting” and said it unfolded just before noon inside the food court of the $1.4 billion Maryland casino. An early press briefing from Prince George’s County officials confirmed that the victim was a male in his 20s. Authorities said the gunman, who has not yet been apprehended, “chased down” the man and seemed to “know where the victim was” before he fired. Because investigators were unsure whether the suspect could have escaped on foot, local schools were briefly secured, but they reopened once it was determined the shooter fled in a vehicle. Despite the tragedy, the casino stayed open while the investigation continued.
