Rajasthan: Husband-wife duo arrested for printing fake currency; Rs 12.20 lakh seized
Police in Jhalrapatan, Rajasthan, just cracked a big counterfeit currency racket, arresting a husband-and-wife team caught printing and distributing fake notes. The bust happened through teamwork between the Jhalawar District Special Team and Chandigarh Police, who seized fake currency worth Rs 12.20 lakh.
The couple, Jitendra Sharma, 40, and his wife Rajni Sharma, 37, hail from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. They’ve been renting a place in the Chandravati Growth Centre for the last five months, right in the Jhalrapatan police area.
Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar shared how it all unfolded. It started when Chandigarh Police nabbed two men, Gaurav and Vikram, on September 29 for trying to pass off fake Rs 500 notes. Gaurav had 1,646 bogus bills, while Vikram carried 392, adding up to more than Rs 10.19 lakh in counterfeit cash.
Under questioning, the men confessed they got the fake notes through courier packages with phony names and addresses. The trail led back to Bakani town in Jhalawar district.
Chandigarh Police teamed up with the local squad to dig deeper. They sifted through over 100 CCTV videos from courier spots and zeroed in on Rajni Sharma as the sender.
That clue sparked a late-night raid on the couple’s rental on Wednesday. Officers found Rs 12.20 lakh in fake notes, plus gear for making them: a laptop, color printer, cutter, ink, printing paper, and a screen frame imager.
Investigators say the pair was linked to a wider fake currency syndicate, using couriers to ship bogus bills quietly to partners in other cities.
Both suspects are now in custody with Chandigarh Police, who are leading the probe into this counterfeit operation. The seized items have been handed over for deeper checks.
