Women’s World Cup: Don’t think there will be bigger motivation than playing a final, says Harmanpreet

Navi Mumbai – On Saturday, India’s women’s cricket team paused after a thrilling win over Australia in the World Cup semi‑final. The players entered the nets, but the adrenaline from that high‑stakes match left everyone a bit drained. Now they’re gearing up for Sunday’s final against South Africa in Mumbai.
The favoured Australian side was toppled by the Proteas, who earlier upset England in Guwahati. India’s journey to the final has taken two years of focused preparation, especially since the tournament is being hosted at home. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur said the team isn’t worried about fatigue or pressure. “Playing the final is the biggest motivation,” she told reporters before the match. “We’re fully charged up, and we’re standing with one another, praying and cheering.”
Kaur highlighted the bond inside the squad, saying the team’s unity is a major strength. “It’s all about giving our best, using strategy, and belonging to the team,” she added. She also reminded that India lost in the 2005 and 2017 finals and hopes the outcome of this Sunday will be different. “We know the sting of defeat, but we’re ready to share the joy of victory if it comes,” she said, noting this is her fifth World Cup.
The captain grew cautious about over‑exposing tactics. “We’ll share the final bowling and batting order only at the toss,” she said. “We keep it secret until the moment it matters.”
With the crowd already buzzing in Mumbai and the stake higher than ever, India’s women are set on turning the years of hard work into silverware—and putting a new chapter of World Cup glory on record.
