Pregnant Bengali woman Sunali Khatun returns home in Bengal from Bangladesh, Trinamool calls it ‘people’s victory’

Kolkata, Dec 6 (LatestNewsX) – A pregnant Bengali woman named Sunali Khatun, who had been sent back to Bangladesh six months ago under suspicion of being a foreign resident, finally made it home in West Bengal’s Birbhum district this Saturday.
She crossed the Malda land border the night before and, after a Supreme Court ruling that required her return, arrived in the morning with her eight‑year‑old son.
Soon afterward, she was admitted to Malda Medical College and Hospital for a check‑up.
She was discharged the next morning, but later in the day her father—who had joined her—went to Rampurhat Sub‑divisional Hospital for additional tests.
Hospital staff reported that Sunali Khatun has a low blood count; otherwise she and her son are in good health.
Upon getting home, she expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee and Rajya Sabha MP Samirul Islam for their help.
“I have returned. Thank you to Mamata didi and Abhishek Banerjee. I also thank Samirul Islam. I was in a lot of trouble in Bangladesh. Mamata Banerjee had sent money. However, the Bangladesh Police did not torture me. After this, I will never go to Delhi again,” she told LatestNewsX.
Samirul Islam later added to the crowd, “This is a victory of the people. This is a victory of the effort put up by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee. We have always stood by the party and will continue to provide her family with all the assistance that will be required. Those who torture Bengalis will be given a befitting reply by the people of Bengal.”
Although Sunali and her son have finally returned, four others remain stranded in Bangladesh, including her husband and a woman referred to as Sweety Bibi’s family. No solid schedule for their repatriation has been given yet, though both the Supreme Court and the Calcutta High Court have already ordered that all those deported, Sunali included, must be brought back to India.
Sunali’s family has urged for a prompt return for the remaining members.
In June, police in Delhi had detained six individuals—including Sunali—on charges of being Bangladeshi infiltrators, even though each of them possessed legitimate Indian citizenship documents. The six were deported to Bangladesh, where the local police arrested them. They have since been confined in Bangladeshi prisons. Legal action has been filed at both the Supreme Court and the Calcutta High Court to secure the return of all six citizens.
