Two FedEx trucks collided on the northbound 5 Freeway in Pacoima early Wednesday morning, around 3:45 a.m. The impact ripped open a trailer and scattered boxes across the wet roadway, forcing the truck cab to spin out and block the middle lanes.
The crash triggered a full SigAlert, shutting down all northbound lanes on the 5 Freeway and causing a standstill that rippled out onto the 118 Freeway and the nearby 405 Freeway. Drivers were unable to clear the scene for some time, and the National Weather Service warned that the Valley could see 4 to 7 inches of rain through Friday, making the roads even more treacherous.
A heavy‑duty tow truck was dispatched to haul away the damaged rigs while crews worked to clear debris and restore traffic flow. Authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the collision, but the timing coincided with heavy rain that began pelting Los Angeles County, creating slick and dangerous driving conditions in the dark.
