Lakme Fashion Week rolled into its third day in New Delhi on Monday, and designers from around the globe turned the spotlight onto sustainability. In a partnership with the Federation of Defenders of Consumer Interests (FDCI) and the United Nations in India, the event hosted the R|Elan™ Circular Design Challenge (CDC).
Six finalists presented bold ideas that blend innovation, eco‑friendly fabrics, and social impact. After a day of runway showcases, the judges awarded the top spot to the label Crcle and runner‑up to Golden Feathers.
Crcle—founded by Varshne B—built its collection from plant‑based textile Weganool, banana leather, recycled stainless steel, and dead‑stock fabrics. When asked how she felt about winning, Varshne said, “It’s surreal—I’m still processing it. I’ve always dreamed of launching this brand, and the moment my 13‑year‑old self’s dream comes true feels amazing.”
Golden Feathers impressed judges by turning poultry waste into a renewable natural fibre. Their 27‑step sanitisation process replaces water‑heavy cotton and polluting synthetics. The brand also partners with rural artisans to fuse traditional handiwork with green production. Co‑founder Radhesh Agrahari expressed, “We’re proud of how far we’ve come. This win feels personal—it’s for my family, my children, and myself.”
The R|Elan™ Circular Design Challenge aims to push young designers toward circular fashion, encouraging them to experiment with sustainable materials and methods.
Lakme Fashion Week, which kicked off on Thursday, will wrap up on Friday with additional shows from creative and eco‑conscious designers. This event confirms Delhi’s growing reputation as a hub for the next generation of sustainable fashion.
