TikTok star “Epic Gamer Grandma” dead at 78; grandson remembers her legacy
Agnes, famously known as “Epic Gamer Grandma,” passed away on Monday at the age of 78. Her grandson, Culsan, announced the loss on Instagram to the over 850,000 followers who had cheered her gaming adventures for years.
In his post, Culsan described her final moments as “peacefully” and “surrounded by love,” adding that Agnes died “while holding the hand of her daughter, Pauline.” The family’s grief was palpable, but they also felt a deep sense of pride for the impact her streaming had on so many viewers.
Agnes had been battling chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) prior to her death. On October 16, Culsan revealed that her condition had “worsened significantly” and that she had been rushed to the hospital by ambulance.
Two days later, he confirmed she had suffered a major stroke and would undergo extensive treatment and testing. By November 6, he posted another update, saying her mind and speech remained “seriously impaired,” with sentences that were either “entirely illegible” or didn’t make sense. He added that Agnes was in pain, and both he and his mother had to take breaks to cope and stay strong for her.
Throughout her illness, Agnes’s family expressed gratitude for the wave of support from her fan base. “Both my mum and I have cried too many times to count at some of your comments,” Culsan said. “It means more to us than you could possibly imagine.”
Agnes’s fan following was far from modest. She grew to amass more than 2.4 million followers on TikTok and an additional 117,000 subscribers on YouTube, with a combined audience that spanned millions across platforms.
Her videos predominantly featured her playing popular titles such as “Skyrim,” “Minecraft,” and “Phasmophobia.” Even in the final months of her life, when pain, fear, and uncertainty were all that surrounded her, she continued to radiate the same kindness, wittiness, and quiet strength that had made her a beloved figure online.
In a heartfelt tribute, Culsan thanked her community for giving Agnes a second family. “Thank you for making her feel seen, valued, and celebrated in a world that often forgets people her age,” he wrote. “She mattered to us, to you, and to so many more than she ever realized.”
