Maha CM directs implementation of security, facilities for Mahaparinirvan Din

On Tuesday, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told every government office to work together so that the arrival of the more‑than‑hundred‑thousand devotees at Chaityabhoomi on December 6 – the day that commemorates the Mahaparinirvan of Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar – would be safe and well‑supported.

In a review session he announced that a Coordination Committee would be set up to sift through the many suggestions received about the plan to erect a statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at Indu Mill. He urged everyone to use this Mahaparinirvan Din as an opportunity to deepen public awareness of Ambedkar’s legacy and to carry his ideas forward.

Fadnavis inspected the detailed security and traffic‑control drawings, the arrangements for adequate medical care, sufficient drinking water, food supplies, proper sanitation, and the installation of waterproof canopies for the crowd. He also directed the placement of directional and informational boards at key spots so that followers would find their way easily.

The Chief Minister stressed that this meeting is crucial to sharpen focus on essential services, raise the quality of help each year, and fix the shortcomings that have appeared in the past.

During the gathering he introduced the official poster and issued a booklet that explains everything related to Mahaparinirvan Din.

Mahaparinirvan is the Sanskrit term for the passing of a fully enlightened being. For Ambedkar, the day marks the anniversary of his death; he is widely regarded as the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, a leading social reformer, and a Buddhist revivalist. He converted to Buddhism in 1956, a year before his passing.

Every year, millions of followers, especially, flock to Chaitya Bhoomi in Mumbai—where Ambedkar’s cremation took place—to pay their respects.
