Chandigarh, Dec 12 (LatestNewsX) – Punjab’s Chief Minister, Bhagwant Singh Mann, pushed for a strategic partnership with the United Kingdom to boost the state’s investment and manufacturing sectors. During a visit by a senior delegation from the UK High Commission, led by Deputy High Commissioner Alba Smeriglio, the CM stressed the need to firm up business ties and highlighted the mutual drive to deepen cooperation. He pointed out that Mohali ranks among the best‑organized cities worldwide and underscored Punjab’s strong potential to become a manufacturing powerhouse. Reassuring students eager to study in the UK, he promised full support from the state government to facilitate safe, legal pathways.
Addressing transnational concerns such as organized crime, Mann stated that these issues do not stop at borders and that Punjab is ready to work with the UK on legal matters and any help required. He extended a warm welcome to UK firms, positioning Punjab as an attractive destination for investors. The CM described the global influence of the Punjabi diaspora, identified priority sectors like agri‑machinery, food processing and IT, and explained that the state offers competitive power tariffs, land incentives and a friendly investment climate.
Mann noted that Punjab tops the ease‑of‑doing‑business rankings thanks to a single‑window regime that operates transparently, and that the government has earned the distinction of being the first state to implement the Right to Business Act. He invited the delegation to join the forthcoming Punjab Investors Summit in Mohali, scheduled for March 2026, and the Deputy High Commissioner praised the diaspora’s financial resources available for development in their homeland. In answering questions about key sectors, the CM reiterated Punjab’s proactive investment environment and urged the delegation to visit and witness the opportunities firsthand. Both sides agreed to work harder on bilateral ties, aiming for mutual growth, progress, and prosperity while giving a boost to trade and commerce.
