New Delhi, Dec 3 – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) hosted a week‑long ITEC course titled “Investigation Abroad,” drawing participants from 14 partner nations. The training took place at the CBI Academy in Ghaziabad from 26 November to 2 December, with N. Venugopal, Additional Director of the CBI, officially opening the program on the 26th. In total, 23 delegates gathered, including representatives from Nepal, Malaysia, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Fiji, Bhutan, Maldives, Thailand, Mongolia, Tanzania, Kenya, Liberia, Ghana, and Vietnam. During the opening, Venugopal highlighted the importance of conducting investigations outside India, especially in the context of transnational crime.
The CBI Academy holds ITEC training annually for officials of member countries, a venture supported by the Ministry of External Affairs. The curriculum is designed to sharpen knowledge, awareness, and hands‑on skills required for navigating international investigative challenges. Earlier this year, the bureau also joined Interpol’s Operation HAECHI‑VI, which targeted eight crime categories such as cyber‑financial fraud, phone phishing, romance scams, online sextortion, investment fraud, money laundering linked to illicit gambling, business email compromise, and e‑commerce fraud. In this operation, the International Operations Division closely coordinated with the FBI, U.S. Department of Justice, and German authorities, securing the arrest of eight offenders and identifying 45 suspects involved in cross‑border cyber crimes and sexual offences against minors. The agency recovered USD 66,340 in seized funds, blocked 30 bank accounts tied to the crimes, and apprehended two suspects who had exploited U.S. minors through social media to obtain and threaten them with graphic material.
