Beirut, Lebanon – Four people died and two were wounded after Israeli drones and warplanes carried out airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Sunday, Lebanese officials said. The attacks hit the towns of Zawtar, Qlaileh, Naqoura and Nabi Sheet, according to local media.
A Lebanese state news agency reported that the strikes targeted several vehicles near the border. Security sources told Xinhua that three of the dead were Hezbollah fighters, and the fourth was a Syrian national. Israeli forces said the raids killed a Hezbollah official and a suspected weapons smuggler for the group.
This comes amid a week of intense fighting. Lebanon’s health ministry says at least 10 people have been killed by daily Israeli attacks this week, while the UN Human Rights Office records 103 civilian deaths since the ceasefire took effect on November 27, 2024. Many of those victims were found in residential areas or close to UN peacekeeping posts.
Israel says it continues to strike the south to stop Hezbollah from rebuilding its military infrastructure. The Israeli army confirmed it hit a member of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force in Qlaileh. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz visited the Israel‑Lebanon border with US Deputy Special Envoy Morgan Ortagus, underscoring Washington’s interest in the conflict.
Lebanon and several international organisations have condemned the raids as violations of the truce, calling for a full halt to hostilities along the border. Israel maintains that it only targets Hezbollah positions that pose an ongoing threat to its security.
