Tragic Road Accidents Rock Afghanistan: Multiple Crashes Claim Over 30 Lives in Recent Days
Afghanistan’s roads have turned deadly in recent days, with a string of horrific crashes leaving families heartbroken. From head-on collisions to vehicles plunging off cliffs, reckless driving and poor road conditions are fueling these tragedies. Let’s break down the latest incidents that have claimed dozens of lives.
In Faryab province, a passenger car smashed head-on into a truck on the outskirts of Khwaja Sabz Posh district on Sunday. The crash killed six people instantly, including women and children, and injured four others. Rescuers rushed the wounded to a nearby hospital for urgent care. This heartbreaking accident highlights the dangers of Afghanistan road accidents, where thousands die every year due to overspeeding, overloading, and crumbling highways without proper signs.
Just a day earlier in northern Samangan province, a car flipped over in the Dara-e-Sufi Payan area on Friday night. Three passengers lost their lives, and two more suffered injuries. Local police blamed reckless driving for the crash and quickly took the injured to a health center.
The bad news didn’t stop there. On Friday morning in the same province, two separate road accidents at a crossing killed two people—a driver and another commuter—and hurt four others. All the injured got swift medical help at a hospital in neighboring Balkh province.
Flash back to Tuesday, and Afghanistan saw even more devastation. In western Badghis province’s capital, Qala-e-Naw, three motorbikes collided in a chaotic pile-up that evening. One rider died on the spot, while five others, some critically hurt, ended up in the hospital. Police spokesman Sediqullah Sediqi pointed to careless motorists as the cause.
Then, on Wednesday in northern Baghlan province, a mini-bus veered off a busy road in the Khost-o-Faring area and plunged into a ravine. Nine passengers died immediately, and seven more sustained serious injuries. Provincial police spokesman Mawlawi Shir Ahmad Burhani confirmed the details, noting how congested roads make these Afghanistan traffic accidents far too common.
Earlier on Monday, the toll climbed higher with 17 deaths in separate crashes in northern Badakhshan and eastern Ghazni provinces. Cars met tragic ends, leaving two others injured.
These back-to-back road mishaps in Afghanistan underscore a growing crisis. With overloaded vehicles, pothole-ridden paths, and drivers ignoring speed limits, experts warn that road safety must improve fast to save lives. Families are grieving, and authorities are calling for better enforcement to prevent more heartbreak. Stay safe on the roads, folks—every journey counts.
