Afghan security forces scored a big win against illegal weapons in southern Kandahar province, seizing a stash of guns and ammo that could have posed serious threats. According to the Ministry of National Defence, troops acted on solid intelligence and a tip-off to raid the Spin Boldak-Kandahar route. They uncovered an M4 machine gun, several AK-47 rifles, pistols, hand grenades, loads of ammunition, and other military gear. Two suspects are now in custody, and officials say this bust is a crucial move to keep public safety in check.
This isn’t a one-off—Afghanistan has been ramping up efforts to collect illegal arms over the last four years. The government has gathered thousands of weapons and huge ammo stockpiles across the country, all part of a push to stabilize the region after years of conflict. The goal? Create a safer space for rebuilding and growth in this war-torn nation.
Just last week, on September 7, police in eastern Kapisa province found more dangerous items: an anti-tank mine and six hand grenades hidden in an abandoned house near the capital, Mahmud-e-Raqi. Spokesman Abdul Fatah Faez told reporters they’re hunting down those responsible for stashing the explosives illegally.
Kapisa has been a hotspot for these operations. Back on August 26, counter-terrorism teams raided multiple spots and grabbed seven AK-47 assault rifles, pistols, projectiles, and hundreds of bullets from people holding them without permission. The police statement was clear: No one gets to carry arms unlawfully, and they’re not messing around.
Earlier, on August 22, forces in southern Helmand province’s Musa Qala district nabbed 14 pistols and a dozen gun magazines during a sweep. They also arrested two suspects linked to the cache. Spokesman Mullah Ezatullah Haqqani confirmed the details, highlighting how these Afghanistan weapons seizures are helping clamp down on threats.
These ongoing arms seizures in Afghanistan show the government’s determination to root out illegal firearms and explosives, making streets safer one raid at a time. Stay tuned for more updates on security efforts in the region.
