In Balochistan’s Dera Bugti district, Pakistani security forces allegedly forced five Baloch civilians into disappearance on Friday, a leading human‑rights group says. The incidents are part of a growing wave of abuses—enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings and torture—across the province, said the Baloch Voice for Justice (BVJ).
BVJ said the raids were carried out by the Counter‑Terrorism Department (CTD) and Inter‑Services Intelligence (ISI) officers in the Sui area of Dera Bugti. During the operation, homes were looted, families were beaten and the five men—Akram, Ahsan, Ibrahim, Mandha Bugti and his nephew Noor Din—were taken away.
“These disappearances show how common forced detentions have become in Balochistan. It is a serious breach of human‑rights law,” the group warned. BVJ demanded that the missing people be located immediately and that the authorities be held accountable.
The group also urged the Pakistani government to put strong safeguards against enforced disappearances, in line with its international obligations. They appealed to global bodies – the UN, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch – to press the government for the safe return of those missing and for justice.
In a related case, BVJ reported that Manan Qadir, a cousin of Rashid Hussain who has been missing since 2018, was seized by security forces in Zehri five days ago. The group said that men and women were fired on during the raid, and several family members were detained; most were later released, but Manan Qadir remains in custody and his location is unknown.
BVJ called on the Pakistani authorities to end forced disappearances, reveal the fate and whereabouts of all missing citizens, and ensure those responsible face accountability.
