A minibus went out of control on a road that runs from Denpasar to the Buleleng region in northern Bali and fell into a shallow ravine, killing five Chinese tourists and injuring eight others. The crash happened on Friday, according to police spokesperson Widwan Sutadi.
The driver tried to dodge a following car and swerved left, hitting a tree. He lost balance, and the van was jacked off the road and plunged into the ravine. The driver was hurt but survived. All 13 passengers were Chinese nationals traveling together on a sightseeing tour.
Passengers were taken straight to the nearest hospital. Five of the victims died there later that day. The other eight survivors are being treated for injuries.
Police said the accident was caused by the driver’s lack of caution when turning and descending the road. The incident has shocked the local tourism community, which welcomes thousands of Chinese visitors every year.
Bali authorities have launched an investigation and urged all tourists to stay alert on the island’s winding roads. The incident highlights the risks of congested roads and sharp turns, especially for those unfamiliar with the terrain.
