Florida teens lured 14-year-old girl into woods before fatally shooting her and setting body on fire: police
In a shocking case from the Florida Panhandle, two juveniles—one 14‑year‑old and the other 16—were accused of luring a 14‑year‑old girl into a wooded area, shooting her multiple times, and then burning her remains.
Danika Troy was last seen by her mother on November 30 and was declared missing later that morning, just after 7 a.m., when her family reported her as a runaway. Sheriff Bob Johnson told reporters at a press conference on Thursday that the mother had no idea the girl was killed the night before. “Unbeknownst to the mother, Danika was murdered the previous night,” Johnson said.
Investigators recovered Tro y’s body on December 2 near Kimberly Road in Pace, roughly 17 miles north of Pensacola, after it was discovered in a wooded area by a highway. The victim’s remains were found with multiple gunshot wounds before being set on fire. “This is where it gets really horrific,” Johnson remarked. “It’s bad enough you kill a 14‑year‑old, you’re 14, you’re 16, shoot her multiple times, then they set her on fire.”
The teens, Kimahri Blevins (14) and Gabriel Williams (16), were identified as the principal suspects and charged with first‑degree premeditated murder. Both had been classmates and had reportedly fallen out during the Thanksgiving break. According to a witness, Blevins told police that he and Williams had initially planned to shoot Troy only once, but the plan escalated. The duo allegedly targeted Troy because she had blocked Blevins on social media and insulted Williams, labeling him a “worthless gang‑banger.”
Williams is said to have taken his mother’s handgun and carried out the shooting. Blevins was later caught sneaking back into his home at 11 p.m. the night of the crime. He told his mother he’d gone out to smoke, a statement that did not match the smell on his clothes. In questioning, detectives confirmed that Blevins and Troy had a falling out and that he had blocked her online. Williams told detectives that Troy had made “hurtful comments” before the assault.
The police describe the case as a “groundball” according to Major Crimes, meaning the evidence immediately pointed to the suspects and led to their swift arrest. Johnson also noted that the suspects’ statements do not align with the evidence, suggesting a lack of clear motive. The teens had prior encounters with law enforcement, though officials have not confirmed whether those were arrests.
Authorities have not ruled out charges against any of Troy’s parents and mention that the county has seen more homicides this year than usual. For the first time since 2016, the sheriff’s office is dealing with a juvenile perpetrator case involving a juvenile victim.
“The image of a burnt child with bullet holes is something you don’t want to see,” Johnson said. Officials hope the two juveniles will be tried as adults, with the likely outcome of adult prison sentences. For now, they remain in juvenile detention.
