Kabul, Afghanistan – Afghan troops launched a night‑time strike on Pakistani targets along the Durand Line after the military said Pakistani aircraft repeatedly violated Afghan airspace and carried out air assaults on Afghan territory.
The Ministry of Defence posted on X that its forces hit key Pakistani positions “above the border line” on Saturday night. The operation wrapped up just past midnight, the ministry said. It added that Afghan forces stand ready to defend the nation’s borders and warned further incursions would trigger a swift military response.
Earlier in the week, Pakistan shot down a civilian market in Barmal district, Paktika province, and struck Kabul’s airspace. Afghan officials described the attacks as “unprecedented” and condemned them as violent violations of sovereignty. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed explosions in Kabul on Thursday night and promised a press conference to explain the situation.
Taliban border guards now face Pakistani posts in eastern districts. Afghan media quoted the MoD saying heavy clashes are ongoing along the frontier. A former U.S. envoy, Zalmay Khalilzad, warned that such strikes could spark a wider conflict and urged diplomatic solutions.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called for calm and dialogue between the two countries, stressing the importance of regional stability. Qatar affirmed its support for peace initiatives that protect both Afghan and Pakistani people.
The situation remains tense. Both sides have reiterated that they will defend their sovereignty and that further escalation could have serious consequences.
