“An honor to be with PM Modi; our relationship will only strengthen”: US Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor

New Delhi () – U.S. Ambassador‑to‑India Sergio Gor said he was honored to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a live X post, Gor praised the growing ties between the U.S. and India and pledged to strengthen the partnership in the coming months.
Gor’s first day in India saw a warm welcome from Modi. “An incredibly warm welcome today from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on my first day in India,” the U.S. Embassy posted on X. The embassy added, “I look forward to strengthening the strategic partnership between our two nations.”
Prime Minister Modi echoed the sentiment in his own X message, confident that his tenure would further cement the India‑U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
The ambassador also met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. In a separate X post, the embassy described the meeting as positive, noting that Gor will work closely with Jaishankar to deepen the strategic partnership and make both countries “more secure and prosperous.”
Later, Ambassador Gor spoke with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. A U.S. Embassy X update said, “A pleasure to spend time with National Security Advisor Doval today. The U.S. and India remain committed to working together to advance a free and open Indo‑Pacific.”
In comments on his relationship with India, Gor highlighted the high regard the U.S. holds for the country. He mentioned that President Donald J. Trump values his friendship with Prime Minister Modi, saying the two had an outstanding phone call before Gor left for New Delhi. He added, “I am optimistic about the days ahead for both our nations.”
The U.S. Embassy’s series of X posts show a positive start to the new ambassador’s tenure and underscore a shared goal: stronger U.S.-India ties, deeper security cooperation, and a free, open Indo‑Pacific.
