In Pakistan’s Balochistan province, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) is firing back at a recent court decision that brands one of its jailed activists, Gulzadi Baloch, as a fugitive on the run. The group calls the ruling a clear twist of justice, according to reports from The Balochistan Post.
Gulzadi Baloch, a key figure in Baloch activism, has spent more than six months behind bars alongside BYC leaders like Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Beebarg Baloch, Shahji Baloch, and Beebow Baloch. Authorities first grabbed them under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law for a three-month stint, but they’ve kept extending the detentions without solid reasons.
Here’s the wild part: Even though Gulzadi sits in jail, officials slapped her name on a police report in Mastung and slapped arrest warrants on her, labeling her an absconder. The BYC slams this as not just confusing, but a total joke on the legal system.
In a strong statement, the BYC questions if Pakistan’s courts truly stay neutral or if they’re just getting used as weapons against activists. The group insists its leaders won’t back down from pushing for democratic change in Balochistan. Far from quieting the movement, these crackdowns only fire up more people to fight state repression and human rights abuses.
The BYC accuses the government of turning the law into a tool for oppression, which breaks Pakistan’s own constitution and basic rights. They say it’s an outright slap to the rules the state pretends to follow.
Calling for action, the BYC demands the quick release of all its detained leaders, the dropping of what they call fake charges, and a stop to these unconstitutional moves in Balochistan. This ongoing clash highlights rising tensions in the region over Baloch rights and state control.
