Sonia and Rahul Gandhi Meet Mauritius PM in Delhi to Strengthen India Ties
In a warm meeting in New Delhi, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi sat down with Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam. This happened on Tuesday as part of his official visit to India, highlighting the strong bond between the two nations.
Rahul Gandhi shared his thoughts on Facebook, saying, "Along with CPP Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi, I had the pleasure of calling on H.E. Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius. We spoke about the deep and enduring friendship that binds our two nations and peoples." The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the India-Mauritius relationship, focusing on shared history and values.
PM Ramgoolam’s trip to India, from September 9 to 16, packs in political talks, cultural visits, and spiritual stops. Earlier that day, he met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Both leaders celebrated the unique ties between New Delhi and Port Louis, rooted in common history, language, culture, and values.
A post from Rashtrapati Bhavan on X captured the moment: "Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam of Mauritius called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Both leaders agreed that the relations between our two countries are unique, rooted in our shared history, language, culture, and values. The President expressed confidence that with the vast leadership experience of Prime Minister Ramgoolam, India-Mauritius long-standing bilateral ties will further strengthen in the times to come."
Before the Delhi meetings, Ramgoolam paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. He laid a wreath at the memorial and signed the visitors’ book, wrapping up a key part of his eight-day visit.
The Mauritius PM landed in New Delhi on Monday, greeted by Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth. His journey started with spiritual highlights—he visited the famous Tirumala Temple in Tirupati and attended an event at Bramarishi Ashram, welcomed by spiritual leader Siddhguru Sideswar Bramedswi Gurudev Swami.
In Varanasi, Ramgoolam and his team soaked in the city’s vibe. On September 11, he met Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri for important discussions. The visit peaked with a bilateral meeting alongside Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where they signed several agreements and unveiled a massive Special Economic Package worth over USD 680 million to boost strategic and development partnerships between India and Mauritius.
On September 12, he explored the sacred Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, adding a cultural touch to the diplomatic tour. These interactions show how India-Mauritius relations continue to grow, blending history, economy, and shared spirit.
