A mild earthquake shook Myanmar late Wednesday night, measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale, according to the National Centre for Seismology. The quake struck around 2:19 a.m. Indian Standard Time on October 2, 2025, with its epicenter at latitude 26.57 N and longitude 96.43 E. It hit just 10 kilometers deep in the Earth’s crust, which experts say could make it noticeable but not too destructive in most cases.
This comes just a day after another tremor rattled the region. On Tuesday night, a 3.6 magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar at 3:01 a.m. IST on October 1, 2025. That one was centered at latitude 22.94 N and longitude 93.86 E, about 80 kilometers underground.
No immediate reports of damage or injuries have surfaced from either event, but officials often urge people in earthquake-prone areas like Myanmar to stay prepared. The country sits near active tectonic plates, making it vulnerable to these shakes. Keep an eye on updates from seismology centers for any aftershocks.
