Danish Ambassador to India Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen made a strong call Thursday for wrapping up a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union. He called it a true win-win that could boost both economies big time.
In an interview with in New Delhi on September 26, Kristensen stressed how much India and the EU could gain from closer economic ties. “We’ll push very hard for the conclusion of the Free Trade Agreement between India and the EU,” he said. “It will be a win-win for both the EU and India. The two economies have so much to offer each other. I remain hopeful, but of course, it requires willingness to compromise on both sides, and I feel it there.”
Kristensen pointed out that India-Denmark relations are at an all-time high, thanks to their Green Strategic Partnership launched back in 2020. This deal focuses on key areas like renewable energy, eco-friendly technologies, water management, sustainable cities, and cutting carbon emissions.
“The India-Denmark relations have never been better,” he added. “We’re solidly grounded in our green strategic partnership. We hope in the years to come to further develop that in depth and broaden the scope to the benefit of both countries.”
Looking ahead, the ambassador wants to ramp up work in clean energy and climate action while branching into fresh opportunities. “The whole idea is to double down on some of the green priorities we already have in the existing partnership and also expand the partnership to new areas to the benefit of both countries,” Kristensen said. “We hope to accomplish that within the next year or so.”
His comments come as talks on the India-EU Free Trade Agreement pick up steam. Both sides seem eager to deepen cooperation in trade, green energy, and beyond in the coming years, building on strong Denmark-India ties.
