Rain Alert in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: PDMA Warns of Heavy Showers, Floods, and Landslides from September 15-19
Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is bracing for heavy rain as the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) sounds a high alert. From September 15 to 19, expect rain-wind and thunderstorms across several districts, according to a fresh weather forecast shared by Dawn News. District administrations have received strict orders to stay ready for any emergencies, like sudden floods or landslides.
The weather advisory highlights risky spots including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Kolai Pallas, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Kohat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Hangu, Karak, and both North and South Waziristan. These areas could see showers with occasional breaks between September 16 and 19. PDMA warns that water levels in local drains and rivers might rise quickly in places like Dir, Chitral, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, and Mardan.
Things could get worse from September 18-19, with heavy rains possibly boosting river flows in Upper and Lower Dir, Upper and Lower Chitral, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Upper and Lower Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, and Mardan. Beyond floods, watch out for landslides that could damage weak houses, electricity poles, signboards, and solar panels.
PDMA has special tips for everyone: Farmers and livestock owners, move your animals to safe spots right away. Tourists, skip risky areas like hilly terrains or riverbanks to avoid trouble. Stay updated on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa weather alerts to keep safe.
This comes just a day after flood woes eased a bit in South Punjab. Water levels dropped in some spots, but the damage hit hard—nearly 2.5 million people got evacuated province-wide, and sadly, 101 lives were lost, Dawn News reports. Officials now call Jalalpur Pirwala and Alipur tehsils in Multan safe after a big flood wave passed Head Panjnad.
PDMA calls this one of the biggest relief efforts lately, with over 1,500 rescue boats in action. They pulled out 12,427 folks from low-lying zones near the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers. Districts like Multan, Muzaffargarh, and Rahim Yar Khan suffered the most, with thousands rescued from flood-hit areas.
Even with some relief, the crisis lingers. Take Lati Mari union council in Alipur tehsil—home to 40,000 people—it’s fully underwater. Pakistan’s flood situation shows how vital these PDMA warnings are for monsoon safety across the region. Keep an eye on local updates and follow safety advice to stay protected.
