India-EU Boost Security Ties: Key Meetings in Delhi and Brussels

India and the European Union are taking big steps to strengthen their security and defence partnership. On Friday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held talks in New Delhi with a delegation from the EU’s Political and Security Committee (PSC). The group, led by Chair Delphine Pronk, made history with its first-ever visit to Asia.

The discussions zeroed in on deepening India-EU security cooperation and defence ties. They also covered the latest regional and international developments. Randhir Jaiswal, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, shared these updates, highlighting how both sides aim to build stronger bonds under the India-EU Strategic Partnership.

Pronk’s team kicked off their India trip on Thursday with a meeting at the Defence Ministry. They sat down with Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh to talk about capacity building, enhancing military capabilities, and tackling emerging security challenges. The delegation got a detailed briefing on the Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), which helps monitor maritime security in the area.

The Ministry of Defence posted on X about the productive chat, calling it a key moment for EU-India defence cooperation. Pronk herself thanked Singh on X, saying, "Thank you, Defence Secretary Singh, for discussing today with EU Political and Security Committee on strengthened EU-India security & defence cooperation, regional & global security challenges. EU & India are natural partners."

At the same time, India and the EU wrapped up their 15th Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism (CT) meeting in Brussels on Wednesday. Maciej Stadejek, Director for Security and Defence Policy at the European External Action Service, and KD Dewal, Joint Secretary (Counter-terrorism) from India’s MEA, co-chaired the session.

Both sides strongly condemned the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, which claimed innocent lives. The EU renewed its condolences to India, showing solid support in the fight against terrorism.

These meetings signal a growing India-EU alliance on security issues, from counter-terrorism to regional stability. As natural partners, they’re set to collaborate even more in the coming days.
