Russian President Vladimir Putin recently chatted with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the phone, highlighting the rock-solid bond between Russia and India. Putin shared these details during a meeting with his government team, as noted on the Kremlin’s official site.
He stressed how steady Russia-India relations rest on deep national support. Putin also gave a shoutout to India’s progress in governance and economy under Modi’s watch. “Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India follows its own independent path and scores big wins in the economy,” Putin said. “It’s showing the fastest growth among major global economies.”
The call happened right after Putin sent Modi birthday wishes for his 75th. In the telegram, Putin praised Modi’s role in boosting the “special and privileged strategic partnership” between the two nations and expanding cooperation in key areas. Putin looks forward to more joint efforts on global and regional challenges.
Russia remains a trusted ally for India, especially since the 2000 Declaration on the India-Russia Strategic Partnership during Putin’s visit. This ties right into India’s foreign policy priorities.
On another front, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly in New York. The Russian Embassy confirmed the talks on social media, focusing on high-level UN discussions.
Jaishankar later posted about their “good conversation” on bilateral ties, the Ukraine conflict, and Middle East developments. These interactions underscore the ongoing momentum in Russia-India relations amid global tensions.
